Our View on the Lake Tulloch 2009
Our Point of the View:
Settling the Vista del Lago to preserve a view
and destroys acres of the lake for public use
ONE REALLY BAD IDEA AND POOR POLICY

The Lake Tulloch Alliance

For more than a decade the Lake Tulloch Alliance has supported sensible planning and development on the lake. We have opposed bad projects that compromise the long term public use and environmental quality of the lake and the worse one ever is Vista del Lago. We have also support good ones! Removing hundreds of thousands of square feet of the lake from public use is just wrong and sets a precident for every other property owner.

We are disappointed that the homeowners operating under the name of the "Committee to Save Lake Tulloch" would think they are saving the lake by protecting one homeowners view!

The Lake Tulloch Alliance has never been about just protecting current homeowners status. We have laid out a constructive set of policies that the counties and Tri Dam should follow to insure sensible development that insures that future generations can enjoy the lake.

At the same time, we have supported projects such as Tuscany Hills that are well planned and do not comproimise the lake. We believe that Castle and Cook has taken a significant risk in their investment in Copperopolis with Copper Village that is good for the community. We need to strongly support this investment. Growing our economy with new jobs and increased tax revenue is a good thing. It is possible to develop the land, grow the local economy while protecting our quality of life and our natural environment.

Too many boats - One of the big problems is that we have way to many boats on an already crowded lake. Implementing the LTA policies is critical. We need no more developments with the density of Copper Cove or Poker Flat.

One large 66 acre parcel is now up for sale adjacent to Peninsula Estates with some water front that could be developed with the density of Peninsula and that would be bad news. We noted that this project was be eventually another project with more density bringing more boats. Click here for photos and details.

Calaveras County should allow no more subdivisions and only allow for larger parcels of 20 acres as does Tuolumne County. A great example is on Black Creek where the homeowners has planted an entire orchard of olive trees that grows the economy, protects the lake, and provides a tremendous example.

All we need is one accident and one law suit and Lake Tulloch could be a 5 MPH lake. If we don't safeguard water quality it could be lake just for sailboats, canoes and row boats! That means property values drop and so does tax revenue.

We urge local residents to contact Tri Dam and voice their support. Email a note to Steve Felte. Tri Dam's Manager (sjf@tridamproject.com) let him know how you feel. You should also contact members of the county boards of supervisors too.

We have made great progress over the years -- lets be sure we don't go backwards with any serious consideration of the poorly conceived project at the Lake Tulloch Resort.
